20th German Rainbow Open at WINSTONgolf – Anniversary, Innovations & a Strong Sense of Community
“We want everyone to feel welcome at the GRO – whether you're an experienced player, a senior, or a rookie,” explains the board of the German Rainbow Golfers e.V. “That’s why we’ve spoken with many participants and introduced new scoring categories that better reflect different needs.”
WINSTONgolf Director Stefanie Merchel is also delighted to host the GRO once again:
“The German Rainbow Open is much more than a tournament for us – it’s a vibrant symbol of diversity, respect, and community. Celebrating this anniversary on a course that’s regularly ranked among Germany’s best fills us with pride. But even more important is that everyone feels welcome here. WINSTONgolf stands for excellent quality and an open culture of togetherness.”
Senior Category from Age 60: New this year: the senior category now starts at age 60. Each day features a 9-hole Stableford tournament. Those who prefer the full 18-hole experience can still register in the classic A–D categories.
Rookie Category for Beginners: Calling all golf newcomers! With a handicap of +36 to +54, you can now compete in a dedicated rookie category – 9 holes per day, relaxed, fair, and full of joy. A perfect way to get a taste of tournament life.
Focus on Sustainability: The GRO has long prioritized responsible resource use – and that commitment continues in 2025. No unnecessary welcome gifts, no printed scorecards, but instead a practical refill system for drinks. The event aims to shine not only in sport but also as a beacon of sustainability. You’ll find all of this here – water refill stations on the course and e-scoring are already standard.
More Than Just a Tournament: Of course, the German Rainbow Open isn’t just about birdies and pars – it’s about connections, friendships, and a community that celebrates together. Under the motto “back to the roots,” participants can look forward to two of Germany’s top golf courses, sociable evening events at Schloss Basthorst, and plenty of good vibes.
Celebrate Diversity – Experience Golf: Whether lesbian, gay, bi, trans, non-binary, or straight – everyone is welcome at the GRO. A dedicated code of conduct ensures that everyone feels safe and comfortable both on and off the course. The program kicks off on Thursday, October 2, 2025, with registration at WINSTONgolf and a festive welcome at Schloss Basthorst. Then it’s time to tee off, laugh, enjoy – and celebrate the 20th German Rainbow Open together.
